How the Invisalign estimate works
- We start from the typical national price range for clear aligners, $4,000 to $7,000 before insurance (CareCredit data, 2022).
- We scale it to your state using the federal government's 2024 regional price levels (BEA). A state at 110 is priced about 10% above the US average.
- Case complexity places you in the range: mild near the lower quarter, moderate in the middle, complex near the top. Adults move slightly higher (Healthline).
- Insurance pays your plan's percentage up to its lifetime maximum.
It's the same model as our braces cost calculator, so you can switch to metal, ceramic or lingual braces above to compare. Full details are on how we get our numbers.

Align, which makes Invisalign, says that in many cases Invisalign costs about the same as braces (Invisalign.com). Short treatments for minor problems, such as Invisalign Express, use fewer aligners than a full case (Align Technology); CareCredit doesn't break its prices down by package, so the calculator doesn't either.
What an Invisalign fee should include
Cleveland Clinic describes treatment as scans or molds of your teeth, a plan for how each tooth will move, aligners made by a lab, small tooth-colored attachments on some teeth, a new set about every 2 weeks, and check-ups along the way (Cleveland Clinic). Before you sign, ask whether the fee covers:
- All aligners, including any extra sets if your teeth need refining
- Attachments and replacing one that falls off
- Replacement aligners if one is lost or broken
- Retainers at the end; a clear plastic retainer averaged $181 in 2024 (CareCredit)
Insurance for Invisalign
Dental plans that cover orthodontics generally cover Invisalign the same way as braces, depending on your plan (Invisalign.com). In OrthoFi data for 2021 on 112,243 insured US patients, the orthodontic benefit averaged $1,772 (Align Technology). Enter your plan's share and lifetime maximum above to see the effect. Questions to ask before you sign
- What is the total fee, and which Invisalign package is it based on?
- How many hours a day will I need to wear the aligners? (The AAO says at least 22 (AAO).)
- Is the payment plan interest-free? Many run 12 to 24 months (AAO)
- Will you file the insurance claim and track my lifetime maximum?
